This is the estate of Sarah’s dear friend, as such it is fitting for Sarah to write the description here.
My dear friend who lived in this quiet Mesa neighborhood with her husband for thirty years was an avid collector with eclectic taste. A few years back, after I had started working for An Estate In Time, my friend and her husband asked me about the possibility of us holding an estate sale for them when they got to the point of downsizing. She was an extremely generous person and loved to give gifts, so this seems a very fitting way for her to share the joy that hunting and collecting gave her (which I have had the pleasure of sharing with her on our many outings over the years) with all of you, who will continue to enjoy the treasures from her many collections. I am very happy to be able to help her accomplish this!
We are featuring a lot of her gold and fine jewelry items, including a Bailey, Banks and Biddle gold necklace as well as a heavy 18k gold lion pendant with diamonds she purchased in Italy for her husband and a heavy 14k gold ring set with a gold coin. We also have sterling silver jewelry…lots of sterling silver jewelry, including many lovely Native American pieces set with turquoise, opal and other stones. We have many signed pieces, including jewelry by RC Gasper, Running Bear, Effie C, JM (Zuni), A Mariano, J & T, Adam Fiero, Gertie Ganadonegro, Allen K, Robert Kelly, Robert Carmel, Augustine Largo, James Shay, JCM, David Sigal, RC Little, Secatero, and many others, such as a magnificent Sterling Indian Chief ring by Richard Singer.
They also acquired some gorgeous European furniture, such as the Italian dining set and large gilt mirror in the dining room, also the inlaid wood king size bed frame and armoire closet in the master bedroom. She also acquired an extensive collection of Steiff animals and teddy bears, Hummel figurines, beautifully inlaid wooden Reuge music boxes (as well as other German music boxes), lovely cut-to-clear Bavarian crystal, Scandinavian Sasha dolls, and elaborately dressed miniature Madame Alexander dolls, and a nice collection of soapstone Eskimo figurines and Native American dolls. There are also some amazing Royal Doulton, Lladro and Swarovski figurines, bisque baby dolls, and Barbie dolls.
Her sister, Nancy A. Haig, was a listed artist, best known for her “Ladies of the Silver Screen” gouache portraits of legendary Hollywood actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Jean Harlow and more. This series has been reproduced in prints and posters, some of which we have for sale. We are also fortunate to feature six of her original paintings (Marilyn Monroe, Carole Lombard (I & II), Bette Davis, Greta Garbo and Jean Harlow), as well as a framed signed letter from Katherine Hepburn thanking Nancy for sending her one of the prints.
While she was in art school, and afterwards while living in San Francisco, Nancy developed a friendship with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. We have for sale a framed card with an envelope made out to Nancy from the Lennon’s with Yoko’s STARPEACE logo as the return address, as well as a large collection of early Beatles albums and 45s, plus books, photos and magazines she collected over the following years. There are many more paintings and prints included in this sale featuring the work of Patrick Nagel, John Baptiste, B. Gallagher, John Kelly, and one of my friend’s favorite artists, Rosamond.
She was an avid collector of dolls, including bisque baby dolls to the more realistic “reborn dolls” by makers such as Lee Middleton, Reva Schlick, Berenguer, Linda Murray, Pat Secrist, Sheila Michael, Ping Lau and Adora. Many of her baby dolls are part of the Ashton Drake Galleries “So Truly Real” collection. Then there are the retired Monster High dolls (new in their boxes), wonderfully collectible Disney dolls, wood-faced plush bears and other animals from Robert Raikes, plus the Journey Girls dolls from the now defunct Toys’R Us stores. She also loved cookie jars and purses. We have a variety of fun, colorful handbags for sale from Coach, Dooney & Burke, Patricia Nash and other makers.
Blessings,
Sarah
